Mission Statement
To encourage Canyon County residents to value animals, promote responsible pet ownership and to support the efforts of the Canyon County Animal Shelter.
Animal Overpopulation in Canyon County
From October 2007 through the end of September 2008 CCAS took in 4,545 dogs and 5,148 cats. Only 51% of dogs and 23% of cats were adopted or claimed by their owner. An astounding 90% of the animals were not altered and 95% didn't have identification when they arrived at the shelter.
100% of dogs and cats adopted from CCAS were spayed/neutered and 80% of reclaimed animals were altered. One way to make sure your pet is returned to you if it becomes lost is to make sure it has identification on either a tag or an implanted microchip. Tags can get lost but every animal entering the shelter is scanned for a microchip.
