We were so incredibly blessed to meet and adopt Walter! He has been an absolute joy! Every person who has met him has fallen in love! He fits so perfectly in our family, it seems as if he's been a part of it from day one! We go on walks, he loves to snuggle, and even joins us for story time! He's much bigger than I am (over 112 lbs!!) but is the kindest, most gentle soul any one could hope to encounter! We love him so much and are so grateful to this shelter for all they do!

I am not a self proclaimed "dog person", but I was hoping to find a good hiking and backpacking companion. My Siamese cat, Romeo, just wasn't interested in hiking and well, he LOVES dogs and I thought he might like a buddy too. A month ago,I saw the craziest looking dog I'd ever seen on the CCAS website. They called her Storm and said she was a Catahoula Leopard mix. I thought, a what? So, after some breed research online, I went to meet her and see what her personality was like. Although she was a little larger than I had initially hoped, it didn't take her long to convince me she was the right dog to join my fur family, my only fear was that we didn't have a known history with cats and I knew my Romeo would want a Juliet. So after she healed from spay surgery, we went through introductions and I'm happy to say, Storm was renamed Juliet and Romeo my cat just loves to chase her around the yard... yes that is right, the cat loves to chase the dog around the yard in good fun play. Juliet's favorite toy is a tennis ball, especially the kind that squeaks. We are halfway done with obedience school and she is doing amazing, which is making her extra-curricular hiking with her own pack training go super well. She is one happy dog now! Thanks CCAS!

When I saw Hadley for the first time, she popped up from sleeping and immediately started meowing. If it wasn't her meowing that drew me towards her, it was her unique grey fur and glowing eyes. I took her out of the cage and she just warmed right up to me, rubbing her nose to mine and purring as loud as I've ever heard a cat do before. She's my best friend and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Hadley loves getting her picture taken and my mothers heating pad. She's a purrrrrfect pet and I'm glad to call her my forever cat.

It was love at first sight. As soon as we spotted Zuni we knew she was the one for us. She became attached to us almost immediately. As did we to her. She became instant best friends with our other dog Sage. She loves outdoor adventures and playing fetch. We go on walks every day and she is a very good, well behaved puppy. She will be one year old in May. We are very happy to have found her and we can tell she is very happy to be a part of our family. We can't wait for camping trips and weekend adventures over the Summer!

We adopted Leo about a month back and he has been an absolute bundle of joy for me and my boyfriend. We call him a "squiracado" as he has inherent characteristics of a squirrel, rabbit, cat and a dog :)
This goof ball loves attention. He is the best and we love him :):)

I am a disabled senior and live alone. I was looking for a small 4 legged best friend that I could go for walks with but not drag me along and that would be well behaved in the house. I saw Wilbur on your website. He had come to the shelter with a few problems. He was being fostered by Martina who has done a wonderful job with him. He is the best companion, he is a happy little tail wagger. He is a terrier mix which makes him a natural show off. He keeps me entertained. He and I will work out our disabilities together.

We asked to see Zoot who was pictured on your page. He was quietly in his cage with overgrown, badly matted coat, "collar of shame" from neutering, and kennel cough. He was sweet and we saw potential. WOW DID WE GUESS RIGHT!!! Thank you for this wonderful addition to our family!

I adopted my sweet Harry a month ago. What a great addition to my family. He is so much fun to have around and so happy to see me each time I walk through the door. My experience with CCAS has been so positive and I am so grateful for the work that the staff and volunteers do there to help these animals! Thank you. Harry sends a thank you as well!

Sorry we don't have a photo yet!
We adopted Oakley, a white border collie mix, about a week ago. She is about 14 weeks old now. We renamed her Winter and she's far too smart for her own good! We've already taught her to come when she's called, and to stay about 3 feet away from the door when it's opened so she doesn't run out unattended. She's also begun her leash training, although we haven't been able to take her outside yet pending her next parvo shot in a couple days. Her favorite toy is a rope tug-of-war toy. She also loves to throw her tennis ball and chase it - all the while watching to be sure we're aware of what she's doing. She loves people, but she's totally devoted to my youngest son. We are so glad to have Winter as our newest addition to the family!

I adopted Jasper (Casper) after fostering him for a month. He was my 5th foster dog---and I'm a foster failure! He has been a fantastic buddy for my 11 yr old Lab Mix and sleeps with all of our cats. Goofball is just one of his nicknames! He is a great ambassador for Pitties everywhere (he is a mix). All I can say is do not even hesitate looking at Pitties----they are fantastic companions for every member of your family!

I had recently lost my cat, and wanted to get another boy. I had gone on the website and had a few picked out. We didn't see Butch when we 1st came into the shelter, but looked at the others available. Once we came out of the cat rooms, and were walking up to the front again, I saw him. He was in his cage and just laying there. I fell in love with him.
They told me that he has had some poopy issues, and had been checked out. I'm happy to report that now he is in his new home, he is having no trouble with it now! He has made the couch his. He sleeps with me every night and has adjusted to his new home right away. His name now is Bubba and he comes right too it! :)

I was forced by unforeseen circumstances to surrender my 3 big outdoor dogs to CCAS at the end of last year. It was an emergency and everything happened very quickly. CCAS staff didn't judge me or make me feel like a bad person for what I had to do. They took the dogs, gave them shelter and good care and one of the dogs was adopted into a great family. Once I was able to get back on my feet I re-adopted my remaining two dogs back and the staff at CCAS was as happy as I was, again, without judgement or negativity. Our community is very fortunate to have these dedicated people here providing this vital service on behalf of our animals. I am so impressed by their dedication and care that I am becoming a volunteer at the shelter myself. I am honored to be able to be a part of an organization like this.

I recently lost my cat of 14 years and found it very difficult to be alone. I was hesitant to get another cat so soon, but the following weekend I found myself at the shelter.
I was thinking about a grown cat, but after seeing and holding Cinder and Ella (previously Frankie and Media) I knew I had to take them both. They really wanted attention and were very attached to each other.
I won't ever regret the decision, they're very loving, and very playful as well. They're great companions and a lot of entertainment.
If you're planning to add a cat or dog to your family please consider a pet from the shelter. They really need forever homes and you won't regret it.

Last October, we stumbled upon the CCAS website and, out of curiosity, looked at all the animals available for adoption. One in particular caught our eye: a 4-month-old male Jack Russell terrier mix named Weaver. We checked the dogs page probably twice a day for a few weeks, always looking for him to see if he'd been adopted yet. He was just too cute to last long. And then one weekend we had the time to make the drive out there, so we went for it. When we walked in the Little Dogs room, we were immediately surrounded by a flurry of barking--and there was the little Jack Russell in the middle of it, silently watching us. We spent hours hoarding him in the visiting room, afraid that someone else would snatch him up while we tried to call the rest of the family; we figured it'd be best to consult with everybody else in the house before we brought home another puppy. I sat with him the whole time--most of it spent with him lying in my lap being the little cuddlebug he is--for probably a good two hours. We spent the whole ride home discussing names. Charlie, Sam, Toby, and Monty all were under serious consideration for a while, but in the end we settled on Ritchie. It just fit. I still remember the first thing he did when I carried him inside: bark at the Yogi Bear episode that my little brother was watching in the living room. Ritchie is a little character, complete with the Jack Russell staring and cat chasing. He's always on alert and ready to wrestle, but in the evening is without fail ready to curl up in a lap and sleep. This photo (not posed at all) is of Ritchie (little guy) and our Border Collie/Cattle Dog mix Jasper (bigger guy). The two of them are best buddies, always tug-o-warring and wrestling when they're inside and racing when they're outside. Ritchie is such a wonderful addition to the family and we all absolutely adore him. Thank you for, CCAS, for helping us bring this amazing little guy into our lives.

When I went to CCAS 3 weeks ago I really didn't think I would come away with a new pet...much less a cat. However, Brigid (cat formally known as Nathalie) took my heart. She was so sad and in such bad shape. From what the workers were telling me she was showing signs of Cerebella Hyperplasia: dilated pupils, inability to stand up straight or walk without falling over, not eating. I couldn’t leave her there if she was going to die. I wouldn’t want to go out of this world in a kennel so I decided that she must come home with me.
I am happy to announce that Brigid got a clean bill of health from the vet last Monday. Ms. Brigid is able to stand, walk, jump, and even play...she eats (a lot!) and is so very content and happy in her new home. I had to do quite a few "kitty adjustments" to my home to keep her safe. She now has her own "Kitty Cave" in my chest of drawers where she sleeps the day away...and she plays all night long...every evening at 9:30 (on the dot) she gets a 25 minute reiki message which she demands if I am late getting to it. She still is a little jumpy when it comes to sudden movements but is adjusting well. Thank you everyone at CCAS giving me this opportunity to give Brigid a good, happy and safe home…she is an absolute delight in my life.

Adopted "Nesbit" now Ted on 12/23/12. I was looking for a medium or large dog. However, this little guy caught my heart. He is a joy! He's a large dog in a small body. Neither the horse or the cows intimidate him. He gets along great with the other larger dogs. Ted loves to ride in the car. You would never know that he has but one eye. He also prefers to sleep under the covers. Makes it hard to want to get out of bed in the morning. He's quite the little bed warmer. Thank you CCAS!

We adopted Arya in July as a 2 month old puppy. We had baby number two in September and she has been the most loving and careful dog with both baby and our toddler.
In November we went back for Howdy (now Fat Cat) after we saw his profile on Facebook and the CCAS website. We took him home immediately. Two hours later we returned and brough home Eva (now Roxy). It took a while for Fat Cat to come out of his shell, but with crazy Roxy terrorizing Arya, Fat Cat soon learned the dog was a friend.
They all love cuddling up on the heater vents, and in this picture you can see them lined up covering the baseboard vent.
Thank you for trusting a young family and when we were pregnant to bring home a puppy. It was the best time to start training her, and now we have a well behaved pup around the baby. And thank you for letting us bring home both kitties, they've meshed into our lives so well.
Thank you CCAS for doing all you do!

We adopted Butterball (now Princess Buttercup) one day before Thanksgiving. The moment we seen her we knew she was meant to be part of our family. She was so frail and scared.

She has become a best friend to our other pug Chewy. She is so playful and has quite the goofy personality! She wiggles all the time. She is so grateful to have a home where she loved unconditionally. She truly lives to please.

Her favorite things are snuggling, playing, and car rides. Did I mention car rides?

Thank you CCAS for bringing us together!

When I first came into CCAS, I was looking for a little friend to join me on the truck with my husband. When I walked Kipling, I immediately loved him. He was such a friendly dog, and interested in other animals, which was such a joy as I had two cats and another dog at home. I had my reservations about him being on the truck, as he was a little timid, but figured, "Why not? I am already in love with him!" I have had him for three or four months now, and am so happy he is with me. I bring him and my black cat Dyllon with me on the truck, and they get along so well. He is such a friendly and loving dog, and I renamed him Paul Anka, as his personality is so wacky. He loves his life, his other furry friends, and me so much. He enjoys chewing on ropes and pens, and playing blanket monster with me. He does not bark or whine unless he's telling me he really wants to go potty, and he loves so much to chase rabbits and other wild animals, and I'm sure he dug the biggest hole in Wyoming trying to get to a cute little bunny. He seriously loves raw hides, and the Dyllon's food, and of course he loves people food, but does not beg. He is such a wonderful little guy, and I look forward to spending many, many more years with him. Thank you CCAS for providing me with this wonderful little guy. He's my best friend, my kid, and my everyday joy!

I adopted Spike a 1.5yo Jack Russell about 3 months ago. After bringing him home and getting to know him better I discovered that he has a big hart and lots of love to give. If I take him outside to play he has energy for days but inside he is relaxed and loves to cuddle up in the chair with me and fall asleep on my lap. I was kind of hesitant of bringing him home after reading his profile. His previous owners made him sound like a bad dog. I guess I don’t understand why anybody would want to surrender him. They really gave up a great little companion. Thank you CCAS!

Our family fostered two six week old puppies for a month last fall. It was VERY difficult to return them to the shelter, but we already had cats and dogs and we decided it would be for the best. Both of the puppies (named Jekyl & Hyde by CCAS) were adopted within two days of being listed. However, Jekyl (now Ollie) was returned after one weekend by someone who wasn't quite ready for a puppy. I left work early and raced to adopt him. Ollie has been quite an addition to our family and while he is the most energetic (and naughty) puppy we've ever had he's also one of the most entertaining and loved. I'm so glad we have added him to our pack and we hope that his friend Gator (aka Hyde) is also having a super happy life!

After careful consideration I decided it was time I got my current pup Mayva a companion to keep her company when I have to be at work so she wouldn’t be so lonely. After browsing the local animal shelters for the perfect companion I found Maggie (aka Margie) here at CCAS and knew she would be the perfect fit. I tried the slow introduction but they just weren’t willing to wait the two pups hit off the very first moment I brought Maggie through the door. They took off to puppy play and well 2 weeks later I’m still right the two of them are like peas in a pod who can’t be separated. Both are as happy as can be romping, running, and playing with each other everywhere and of course, at all hours of the night. =)So thank you for whomever did not want to

When I first walked into CCAS during the summer 2012 I was planning on adopting a dog I had seen on the website. Well, when I arrived she had already been adopted. I was upset and started walking through the big dog room & that's when I saw Bella, curled up on her bed, looking up at me. I knelt down and put my fingers through the door, she calmly walked up and licked them. She was the perfect size and adorable, so I decided to take her for a walk. I fell in love instantly and adopted her that day. We kept her name as Bella & couldn't be happier with her. During labor day weekend she got to play in the woods and go for a boat ride on the lake, loving every minute of it. She loves playing with her gummi bear toy, rolling around, and sleeping on the bed. She's a real sweetheart and fits right in with our little home, bringing a smile to our faces.

I adopted my pup back in March and let me tell you, my life has been filled with so much joy and adventure with this guy. He is possibly THE most energetic dog i've ever met. And boy does he love to get into things. I have decided he is part cat and part dog. Jax can leap and pounce with the greatest of ease. Ever since adopting him he has been the little apple of my eye. We cannot go anywhere without getting stopped because of his charm. He is so spunky and automatically becomes the center of attention. He automatically warms your heart without even realizing it. Thank you Canyon County Animal Shelter for bringing this ball of joy into my life!

I went looking at the shelter for a nice medium sized dog to be my companion as my kids leave home in a couple years, and to have someone to hike and do things with me. That however is not what happened. I ran into Ruby ( who was at that time Princess Bella ) and was taken. I really wasn't looking for a small dog. She may be little but she has huge personality, and isn't afraid to go anywhere with me. She has become a dear dear friend that I love more than anything! She was adopted as part of the Empty the Shelter event, and I am so grateful that I found her!

we heard about the 100k challenge and decided to come check it out. We had gone on craigslist and found a dog previously that we adore chance who we found out was remmington from the ccas lol well we brought our loving chance along and thought of getting us a new baby and him a play partner... that's when we found our dear princess Penny. We brought the two dogs together and it was love at first wag...lol needless to say Chance and Penny got off perfectly so we immediately told everyone it was a go... we have had penny a short period of time but our family is now complete. The dogs are so apart of our family that the trust is major.. they are off leash and stay in the yard and manners are wonderful.. we are sooooo lucky to have found such amazing babies. Thanks CCAS!!!!!

I went to the shelter knowing Harley was there.I had looked him up already. I know from the first time we saw each other that he was going home with me. He has been the love of our lives. My husband were married last year and we got Harley shortly after in October 2011! What an amazing dog full of personality and spunk! We love him and are so grateful we can give him a loving forever home!

We have been looking at Canyon County Shelter on line for about 3 months now.

We went out to the shelter, thinking we were interested in a couple of pups, but when we got there Miss Piper stole our hearts.

We have had her home one day and she is already super comfortable. Doing great on walks, and as you can see snuggled right in on the pillows. Silly girl.

She is the most lovey, snuggly dog I have ever met, and we are so blessed to have her as a part of our family.

On July 28th 2012, I walked into CCAS underestimating how much a single choice would change my life. Arius, formerly Ron, is the best thing that has ever happened to me. We will both soon be enduring extensive training so that he can be classified as a legal service animal in his mission to help me see and get my independance back. Arius is not just a stay at home companion, but him and I are inseperable. Thank you so much for giving me a companion, a friend, a guardian and my soul mate. I'd be lost with out my puppy.

Since we adopted Pedro (formerly Nutcracker) in January of 2011, he has been a joy from day one. He even earned high marks from his doggy daycare for helping other dogs transition to a group setting by calming them down and sitting next to them to provide comfort to them. I hope his story encourages others who might be considering BUYING a dog to rethink their choice. There are so many loving, deserving dogs in shelters. Please consider adopting one and giving them a second chance at life in your family pack, which is where they want to be. Since adopting Pedro, he's started a blog and found gainful employment in the postal services! eleslasalchicha.blogspot.com

My roommates and I recently got a house and we decided life without a cat was not worth living. However, on a budget, we couldn't spend a lot and decided to get a black cat as they were on 'sale'. When we found Copernicus (named Thing 1 at the shelter) we knew he was the perfect fit for us. He was and remains a loving and adventurous cat. He's also a little goofball and frequently trips over his own feet or rolls too close to the edge on the couch and falls off. No day is ever complete without Copernicus living up to his old name of "Thing 1" by being just as mischievous as the Dr. Seuss character and/or pawing at our faces looking for attention. THANK YOU CCAS for such an oddball! We love him!

A few months ago, I finally got my dad talked into letting me get another cat after two years of losing Abby (a cat I had since she was nine years old and I got her when I was in the 5th grade). I had plans to get a kitten from somebody else but it didn't work out at the time. A week prior to getting my little bundle of love I had surgery so I felt up to looking for a kitten on May 5th. When we arrived at the animal shelter I was hoping I would find the kitten I had been waiting for and the moment I walked into the shelter I saw Skeeter (formerly Cherry Curie) and she was 8 weeks old and jumping around in the kitten condo. I knew the moment I saw her she was mine and she was the last kitten (at the time). Since then Skeeter and I have become BEST friends and puts a smile on my face every day! She gives me kisses and hugs every day. She'll even talk to me too! Getting Skeeter was the best thing for me! Thank you Canyon County Animal Shelter for making me a super happy girl with a little sweetheart that I spoil and love more than anything!

I stopped by CCAS one day to donate some stuff and decided to walk through the kennels. I came to the run holding an adorable red heeler mix and it was love at first site. I left without her, thinking about how my fiance would kick my butt if I brought home another dog. I called him when I left and he told me to go get her.
Tessie fit right in to our family. She gets along great with her new brother and she is the biggest love bug that enjoys playing fetch and having her belly rubbed. THANK YOU CCAS!

I always come home with the saddest christmas tree that noone wants, the overlooked bargain that nobody saw, etc... On the day i adopted Avery and Sabrina not much was the different. They were both older cats that people passed over because of their age. (3 and 9 years). As for me i saw them as the diamonds in the ruff they truly were and have not been disappointed. They get along famously and have places of honor on the beds in our home. What people dont seem to understand is that cats will live a long (My daughters is 17!) life if you provide them with love and affection. Thank you CCAS and volunteers for your outstanding and obvious care for the animals of canyon county! WE LOVE YOU GUYS!

This is Marley, she was found at canyon county animal shelter on may 21 as a stray on the streets, my daughter fell in love with her and we adopted her. Looking on craigslist there is a listing for her on may 14th where she was sold for 100.00, I called the owner she said she had already gotten rid of her - So people think if they have "rehoming fees" they will get a good home? rethink people get your dog spayed or neutered. Why do this to your so called "beloved family memeber". rest assured marley has found her permanent home for the rest of her life on a farm with a country life. THINK PEOPLE GET YOUR PETS SPAYED AND NEUTERED!!!

On April 10th, I was going through my stuff on FaceBook and came across a pic CCAS had put up of a beautiful little Siamese named Flora who had a vision problem. Someone else had tried to adopt her and they decided that they didn't want a cat that would hide under the bed. I went down to CCAS on the 11th to meet her and see if by some stroke of luck they might be able to hold her. I went into the cat room and fell in love. When I went to the front desk to ask about her, they said someone had sponsored her adoption fee and she was free to a good home. I couldn't stop smiling and gladly signed the adoption papers and she came home with me. At first, she was really scared and hid under my night table. Gradually, she got comfortable enough to journey out into my room and jump onto my bed to demand attention. Two days later, my husband decided that Flora (now named Cerridwen) needed another cat to pal around with in the event that we weren't home. So, on the 14th, I went down and was again attracted to another hard luck case. Alice was also returned because they said she was aggressive. Yeah, she just needed time to adjust to other cats.

Fully 2 weeks after adopting Alice, the two girls get along famously. Cerridwen is still easily startled, but with her eye sight being what it is, that's to be expected. She now explores the rest of the house after my younger kids go to bed. Alice loves the attention she gets from all of the family and has really relaxed around Cerridwen.

We are so blessed to have both of our fuzzy family members. I want to say thank you to the people that returned them and thank you to the person who sponsored Cerridwen's adoption fee.

I don't have a pic of Alice and the one of Cerridwen is one I stole from CCAS's FB.

She is so gentle and doesn't even flinch if the baby pulls her hair. She is house trained, learned her name very quickly and has even won the heart of my husband! Which is saying something, since it took me 14 years to convince him we needed a little lap dog(he prefers big dogs). We are very happy with our new 4 legged family member! Thank you CCAS!

I adopted Maximus from CCAS few years ago right around Christmas time. His name was Jingle then. Waiting at home for Maximus to arrive was my cat Paris who came from another animal shelter in North Idaho. For awhile both them ignored each other, but after bit I saw my lazy cat start playing with the new addition. They are now best of friends! Maximus was a bit of problem dog at the shelter, but he has come out of his frightened shell and is a perfect joy to the family. He even visits other family members homes and is invited to most family functions! I can't thank CCAS enough for the work you do and giving this little dog a chance at a better life!

Hi, over the years my family have adopted many cats and dogs at the shelter. Have been very pleased with how they are taken care of and it is cheaper to adopte. Every time I go to adopte an animal its like one is waiting just for me. I think everybody should adopte here first before looking anywhere else there is so much love at the shelter with the staff and animals. You would not go wrong. keep up the good work people, may you always show the light to these animals, as well as the animals show us the light too :)

My parents promised me a dog, so I went online and I found Jester (Rye at the time). I fell instantly in love with his clumsiness and ability to love on me when I first met him. Jester and I are best friends and we do everything together!

I adopted Charlie (aka Hershal) on May 25, 2011. I don't know what it was about him but he tugged at my heart. I had to put my dog to sleep and was hesitant if it was too soon to get another dog. But I kept coming back to him. He had been a stray and he was extremely matted but his eyes were so beautiful and he way he looked at me, that was it. I had to wait 10 days before I could take him to the groomers. When he went to the groomers he had to be shaved down to his skin. He was a bit of a challenge, trained very little. But he is smart and he learns so quickly and still learning He is definately a cuddler he has his own bed but of course sleeps with me. In the morning when he's ready to get up he sticks his face in mine with kisses and just burrows in...
He knows all the dogs on the block and loves to go for walks.
I'm so happy that I adoped Charlie he is the light in my day!

I adopted Honey back in July of this year as a companion friend for my greyhound/wolfhound mix Hogan. Hogan and I had just lost our girl Lilo to bone cancer. Hogan was really depressed, so I went looking online for a sighthound and found Honey who was listed as a whippet mix. She is an awesome girl! Her and Hogan are best buddies! Thank you for saving such a precious girl. She was needed in my home and I'm glad I found her!

April 30, 2010 I adopted “Artie,” an Australian/German Shepherd Mix from the Canyon County Shelter. I took my stinky little 5-month-old bundle of joy straight to the Doggie Wash to get bathed. Not sure who was covered more in bath water that day- me or him! Not having ever had a dog before, it has been a learning adventure for me from day one. “Artie,” who is now Maximus Moses, was very malnourished when I first got him. He couldn’t quite stand up on his paws all the way and was getting sick often due to allergies. His fur was coming out in clumps and his coat was dull. His immune system was very weak. I stared into his sweet eyes, and tried to fathom how anyone could leave him on the street as a stray. After a few months of quality dog food, probiotics/meds, and TLC he soon began to shine. I also quickly got him in obedience school, where I learned how to be his Alpha. Today he is almost 2 years old and is one of the greatest blessings of my life. Maximus has taught me so much about loyalty and unconditional love. I can’t imagine hikes, runs, or walks without him. He is healthy and happy. He loves Dog Parks and Camp Bow Wow doggie daycare. He is extremely social with any person or animal he comes in contact with. It is impossible not to love him, needless to say, he is spoiled rotten! I love snuggling him and being greeted by his wagging tail when I get home from work. I look forward to having a husband and children someday and watching Maximus love them too, just as much as he has loved me.

We adopted Dominic (Shelter name was Nacho) at the Beginning of August. We had previously adopted a dog at the end of July that we named Bentley (Shelter name was Freddie)he unfortunatly had some heath problems that no one was aware of and he passed away only 6 days after us bringing him home. We came back in 2 weeks later and looked at all the dogs and spent some time with Nacho. He is such a Big boy that I was worried how he would be around my 1 year old.. But they love each other. He just sits there and lets her pat him and pull his ears and just takes it. My older kids love him to. He listens very well and is a great addition to our family. He originally was listed as a Pit Mix, but he is actually an American Bulldog. Thank you for allowing us to adopt our newest family member

For years I have always wanted a dog, but I was not sure what breed. After being frustrated with searching for french bulldog breeders in Idaho, my boyfriend's male boxer (Muhammad Ali), persuaded me to look into the boxer breed instead. We adopted Roxie last July after my searching for TWO YEARS! Roxie is absolutely perfect, and the staff at CCAS were so helpful. After we had a "meet and greet" with Roxie, Ali knew she was the one too. They are inseparable :-)

As soon as I left home and went to college, I looked forward to the day when I would be able to adopt a dog. I have always been an animal lover and living without a dog for four years in college was hard. I used to tell people that I missed my dog at home more than I missed my parents.

I finally moved into a place that allowed pets and was very excited to go and find my dog. Then I received devastating news. My grandfather had passed away. I had never lost someone close to me, so it was really hard for me to deal with the situation. As soon as I got back to Boise, I knew it was time to find my dog.

I saw a lot of dogs on my search, and I wanted to keep them all. My boyfriend pointed out Josie (Shyanne was her shelter name). I took her out to play and she won me over instantly. She was feisty and fluffy and had the cutest little bobbed-tail!

Josie turned out to be the smartest dog I have ever known, with the best personality. She is challenging, but sweet, and always on the go. A few months after I brought her home, I got another piece of awful news. My father passed away suddenly of a heart attack. I was thousands of miles from home, and just felt so completely empty. Josie was there for me that night, cuddling with me, licking away my tears. I spent a whirlwind three weeks traveling from my hometown, to my dad's hometown, dealing with too many emotions to count. Once I got back to Boise, I was greeted by my wonderful, sweet puppy.

She got me out of bed when I didn't want to see the light of day. She got me outside walking because I knew that she needed it just as much as I did. She has only been with me since January, but I feel as though we were meant to be together. Watching her grow and mature and change has brought me great joy and I look forward to the years I will have with my amazing puppy.

He said maybe which turned into a yes. We went to they pound and looked at three dogs, then fell in love with Pixie. she was very friendly, hyper and loved to cuddle. We got her when my brother wan't home for the week so he came home to something, he had wanted for a while we renamed Pixie, to Luna. She likes walks and to sleep on the couch.and to play with the cats and her new toys she like to sleep in someones room and to stand and smell the dinner thats being cooked. My family went to the shelter, to find a buddy for our boarder collie mix named Sade. We discovered Troy,(name they gave him and we kept).
Troy has fit in well with our family. He appears to look like a full lab. His laid back personality is a good balance for Sade.
My boys are vary fond of Troy, and it didn't take long to discover that he is a very jealous dog, when we love on Sade. He is right there to say, "have I want some of that". Anyway, Troy is a nice addition to the family. I hope others will find it in their heart to adopt an animal, and give them a home they all deserve.

We just adopted Jack formally known as Davey from the CCS. We were only planning to be a Foster Home for Jack, with the hope of being able to find him a permanent home. We had Jack home less than a week and knew he was going to become our dog. We already had two dogs and did not want a third one, but we saw all of his potential and how mellow and sweet he was. Jack was born with a eye defect, so he is blind in one eye. All he needed was a little TLC, a bath and grooming and siblings to play and be with. He gets a along with our other two dogs who are shelter dogs also. Jack makes our 5th adopted shelter dog. thanks CCS.

I went to Canyon County Animal Shelter to find an Australian Cattle dog. I had one at home already and love the breed. I walked several adults and they were all wonderful. I went home to talk it over with my husband. The next day I was looking at the dogs' pictures online to decide who I wanted to bring home. I saw a couple new faces. I immediately jumped up and drove to the shelter and fell in love with Kobe. I re-named him Rebel and he is the best puppy. He is so mellow and so smart. When I was 17 I went to the CCAS to look at dogs. My parents weren't sure if I could have a dog or not but I wanted one so bad. As we were looking around all of the dogs there were barking at us, except for one dog. His name is Gavin and it was love at first sight. He is a Great Dane Black Lab mix and I have had him for 2 and a half years. No one would really adopt him because he is a really big dog. So that day we left with my best friend. He is smart and kind and even my husband adores him. Right now his best friends are cats so we are hopefully coming back to CCAS to get him a puppy friend.

She loves other dogs and will do anything to play with any dog of any size. We plan on adopting another dog shortly who has as much energy as she has! He is definitely a hand full and needs a ton of love, but he has the best personality, (he's a cuddler and knows how to put on the cute face). For being a Jack Russell he is very friendly, and wants only to play. I feel like the luckiest person to have him.

My husband and I had been looking for a dog for several months. We wanted a smaller to medium size dog that would be good with out cats. As soon as we saw Cid (formerly Freddy) on CCS we knew he was to be ours. He has an underbite and a snaggle tooth and sort of looks mean becuase of it but is super nice and friendly. Our cats pretty much hate him but he is good with kids and loves people. He enjoys our morning runs, going to the dog park, and our many family gatherings.

We adopted Farley September 22, 2010, for my birthday, and he has been an awesome companion to us both. He loves to play outside and at the Dog park, and has his own best friend a german boxer, and he is deathly afraid of water. We could not have asked for a better dog and could not imagine life without him

We found "clem" wondering around my town. We kept him safe and posted found dog signs everywhere, but I couldnt find his owner anywhere.. we had him for about 3 weeks. Next thing I know "clem" was stolen from my yard,I searched and searched for two months then finally I found him online at the canyon county animal shelter. His original owners didnt pick him up. So I decided I would adopt him. Clem is now named Chewy and he is wonderfull. He sleeps with my 7 and 5 year old daughters at night. He protects them. He is only a little guy but he thinks he is a lion when it comes to his kids. I couldnt imagine life without my chewy bear! THANK YOU SO MUCH! He is in good hands. Hes part of my family now.

Well, supposedly my mom ad been on this website and found Tito, 40lb english bulldog pug mix, she really liked. So she filled out the form and passed it,but the only problem was about Max, our black lab. He had been attacked alot of times by the other dogs in our neighborhood, and we thought he would probably feel uncomfotable with another dog and would attack it. But we still tried and turned out to be a sucess. When we took Tito home we found out that he wasnt potty trained..We also found out that he like to chew on things. but we got him a toy and it was all fixed. He has been a really reat pet and were glad we have him. He was a great addition to the family. Thany you ccas for bringing this bundle of joy int our lives!!!!!! : )

We haven't gotten our dog yet, we pick up Frisco on 4-12-11. I checked the sight too late today Thurs.(the 7th). and was wondering if you could e-mail the photo of him that you had on the adoption page. I meant to check it when we got home. It must have been removed right away today when we adopted him. I am making a photo album as I like to do with our dogs that we have gotten from you. We may send in a story once we get him home. He is a Akita/German Shepherd mix.

We previously adopted Bear around 6 1/2 years ago from you. Thank You! Elaine

I adopted Spy, the smooth fox terrier. I am a representative for a Seattle based fox terrier rescue. Spy was adopted by a wonderful woman in Oklahoma. It was quite a challenge to get Spy to Oklahoma, but a flight and van ride later, he arrived. He fit right in with his sister, Timber. They are a happy family. The photo shows Spy (black head) and Timber taking a nap after a long day of play! Thanks Jessica and all the other CC shelter and clinic staff for helping us get Spy!

I originally went to the shelter looking for a small dog I picked out online. I was so excited because I had to beg my parents for a couple weeks to allow me to adopt a dog. I was looking for a companion. I was on a mission. So, when we get there I was anxious. We told a woman who was trying to help us find the perfect dog for our home, we need a relaxed dog who likes kids. She knew right away the original dog wasn't right for us. I was a little disappointed. She then picked out Sprite for us. She was fun loving and friendly. We knew she would fit in perfectly. I am so glad to have Chloe. (We changed her name.) And she loves us too. I definitely succeeded in my mission.

Ellie (formerly Shakira and on the left in the photo), joined us a month ago and she has proven to be the most wonderful pup. We knew she had special physical needs, which we'll watch closely while giving her all the love and companionship we can. She is very affectionate, always wanting hugs first thing in the morning and throughout the day. We love her energetic and playful side, too. She plays fetch, chases and wears out Molly, our other German Wirehair, and sprawls out on the couch for relaxation. She is highly intelligent and cooperative, quickly learning commands and house rules. We could not have asked for more.

Hello! My name is Chloe and I'm a Boxer. My first name used to be Peyton, but now it's my middle name. Other then my new Daddy, this is my best friend Brutus. I like this picture of us. Brutus and I like to run and play at the park in the mornings. I love going to Grammy's house cause there is a lot of land to run on and three other dogs to play with. I like to hang out with the cows so I get lots of baths. That's okay cause I love to play in the water. Guess you could say I'm spoiled. My Daddy says I am his Princess. He takes me to work with him and to town. I have a Boxer friend and his name is Brutus too. He is really fun to play with! I'm very happy with my new Mommy,Daddy, brother and buddy Brutus. We want to thank you so,so much for helping us find eachother. Love, Chloe :)

In January of 2009 (I think) I went to the shelter looking for a cat. After months of bribing and begging my parents and after raising the money all by myself, I finally convinced my parents to let me get a cat. On the way their all I could talk about was getting the world's cutest kitten. Finally after about 15 long minutes in the car we arrived at Canyon County Animal shelter. I was so excited I couldn't stop shaking. My dad and I walked inside. I couldn't believe it! I was finally going to be in a place full of cats. A desk attendant told us which rooms the cats were in. We walked into the second room on the right and stepped inside. There were only 3 cats, if I am remembering correctly. 2 black ones and a tabby. The black ones, no offense to them, looked horrible. They didn't look like more than two empty ebony shells of what used to be a beloved creature. They, of course, had been abandoned at the shelter for various reasons. So we looked at the tabby. Now this little girl had some energy. She was playing and was actually moving. Of course being the selfish person I was, I said to my dad that I wanted a kitten. So we continued on to the next room. There were more cats in here. I do remember one though. Her name was Divinity, She was pure white and after some prompting we got her to play a little bit. Not as much as the tabby though. I went back to the other cat, the tabby and decided to hold her. So with permission I did. I loved her instantly. Yet I still imagined a kitten. I figured in the end that Matilda was technically still a kitten. The 7 month old defiantly acted like one. Then we had her micro chipped and she was placed in a box to go home. She hated and still does up to this day that box. She meowed and clawed and did that some more. I picked her up and we went to Walmart to get some things for her. The entire time I worried about my cat. But everything turned out okay. My Matilda (Tilly only to me) now has 1 sister(Misty) and my dog Chloe was there prier to her
coming. We have been through a lot together such as the time she was injured in the night and I helped her recover. After that our bond was stronger than ever. She has a great personality and is always posing for a picture.Even if she bites other people I think she is the nicest cat in the world I don't know what I would do without my talkative Tillers.

I adopted 4 year old Jaime from the shelter 4 years ago. He is an adorable basset hound who is now named Elvis. When I came to the shelter to find a new friend, Elvis and I fell in love. He crawled up on my lap and looked deeply into my eyes and said "Take me home! Please!" So that's what I did. We have been best of pals ever since. He sleeps with me, jogs with me, goes to the store with me and if I could take him to work, I would. He is the most loving and playful dog in the world. He is currently sleeping on my pillow beside me :) Oh, and he comes fishing with us too! That's where the picture was taken- on our boat at CJ Strike Reservoir. Thank you Canyon County Animal Shelter for bringing me and Elvis together!

Last Thanksgiving I lost my best friend of 14 years due to old age and was so heartbroken that I told myself that I would never have another dog. One day at work I saw in the Statesman paper the Pet Of The Week with a picture of Katrina, a 2 year old German Shepherd. Because our family had a German Shepherd when I was growing up I couldn't help but be attracted to her. I was at the CCAS first thing the next morning to adopt her. It took Betty (her new name) about a week to become housebroken again and she took over a bathroom as her room where she felt comfortable. Because she was so energetic on her leash when we went outside I knew she needed a fenced-in backyard. Now that I have fenced in my backyard she has so much room to run and play freely we both are really happy when we go outside. Betty really enjoys laying on the sofa next to me and is slowing becoming more confident in her new home. We're both working on overcoming whatever bad expeniences she must have gone through before I adopted her and she is learning to trust and love me as her forever partner. Thank you all at CCAS for your great work with all the unfortunate animals you have to deal with.

We adopted a Lab/Border Collie mix named Freddy at 5 months old about 4 years ago but we changed his name to Lucky. When we first saw him he was very shy and submissive when my sister went to pick him up he peed on her and we all laughed. We lived out in the country, he got lots of exercise had lots of fun as he grew up he grew protective of us and our kittens he was very brave. He wouldn’t let anyone touch him if they were not family he was the best trained dog we have ever had he would stick right by our side off leash and never leave our side for anything we would take him hiking, camping, and fishing with us and he always got very excited and when the trip was over he would refuse to get out of the truck and come inside the house. One day we came home and he had a huge chunk of meat with fur on it and we had no clue where he got it from we assume he took it from a coyote kill because he did kill a coyote for coming to close to the house but he was never dog aggressive I think he could tell the difference between witch one is the real threat and a pet. He was the best dog we have ever had and we will never find another like Lucky he was truly loyal and one of a kind R.I.P Lucky.

Hi, my name is Cindy(Lisal to the CCAS staff). I wanted to thank you for finding me my forever home, my forever family thanks you too. I was adopted on Feb. 12, 2011. They found me on the CCAS website and wanted to come and "check me out",after talking with one of the adopter staff I was introduced to them, and we all three fell in love the minute I walked into the visitor's room. Cindy is the apple of our eye and always keeps us busy with either throwing some type of toy or tug a war and then settling down with a little hands on petting and just being next us while we read or watch TV. So thanks again CCAS, we have our forever friend, Cindy.

She has been the best puppy. She is the smartest puppy I have ever had and she has the sweetest little personality. I got very lucky with her. She loves to follow my other dog, Patty- an 8 year old border collie- around everywhere. They are the best of friends and Sierra is picking up fast on what is and isn't okay to do. If I sat down to my computer and wrote a description of what my "perfect dog / comapnion" would be, I wouldn't come as close to perfection as this dog is. Originally named "rufus" and having spent 3 rough years with his first owner, we found him in October of 2010 at the shelter and knew we wanted to adopt him. Renamed "Rebel" he is my- (dougs) constant companion. I never go anywhere without him. Whether we are on long trips to southern California, or just buzzing around town I take my best friend with me everywhere. He is, by a wide margin, the best dog I have ever had the pleasure to share my life with. A big thank you to CCAS, and to NANCY who helped so much with arranging for us to bring home our new baby and bestest buddy!

I first visited your shelter in March 2008, and was immediately drawn to an adorable beagle/dachshund with a stunning blue coat named "Sweet". My fiance and I were in no position to adopt a dog at the time, so I had to let him go. At my next visit in April, "Sweet" had found a new home and was gone. At my last (and final)visit to CCAS, "Sweet" was back at the shelter and I just had to adopt him. He truly is "Sweet", though we renamed him "Whiskey". His past abuse is apparent when he first meets men, but he eventually warms up to them and is a real cuddlebug! We will be celebrating 3 years with him this May, and for the past year and half he's shared our hearts with a cocker spaniel. Thanks so much, he is an awesome dog!

About 3 years ago there was a picture in the paper of a little black lab mix with a "no chew" type collar on. He was born at the sheltr December 27, 2007. The picture was in the paper in Early March. I had NO desire for a new puppy. My 2 older dogs were in last stages of life and I had decided to just have Missy and no more. Well-that little face would not leave my mind. Tuesday (Dec.27, 2010) we celebrated Captains 3rd birthday. He was "patiently" waiting for his cupcake in the picture. He has some effects from not having one eye(his right eye was removed at 7weeks due to glaucoma)but nothing that prevents him from being the best friend ever! I was searching for the perfect companion since I was going to be moving into my very "first place." Which meant this was going to be my very "first" dog as well. I found BEANIE He is a chihuahua/jack russell and 1.5 years old. He was a stray; although he is very disciplined and house trained; doesn't even chew! I am grateful for the training he had previous to me. When I first saw BEANIE HE quickly got excited. I looked through the door at the shelter at the different dogs; and he was jumping up the most!!! And as I met him he was consistently jumping up on my lap. I couldn't wait to bring him home!! He has been the perfect fit in my life. My other half; my baby. I have to admit I couldn't of found a dog better. And to be honest, it's like he found me! His persistance in his cage to be noticed was all I needed. It's like he knew! And so did I. CCAS made it easy to get to know Beanie in the introduction process. He was happy to be home. He sleeps with me in my bed. He always wants to be near me and I know it's because he is so grateful for a home. I am grateful for a dog. IT'S A WIN WIN! :)

I adopted Butters (formerly Freddy)about 6 weeks ago. He was scrawny and scared after being mistreated by his previous owners and then living on the streets. Since I got him he has introduced me to the dog park (where we go almost every day), and he lets me sleep in my bed with him. His separation anxiety is still very high but I'm hoping in time it will get better. In the meantime he goes almost everywhere with me, bundling up in the car when I run errands and getting snuggles from all my students at the studio. He and my mom's border collie are best friends. People comment on how calm and gentle he is - they are surprised he is only 1.5. He is an old soul who looks at me with forgiving, loving, hopeful eyes, and he is the perfect fit for me.

Within the past year we lost the last of our family dogs and moved to Idaho. Although we knew we would get another dog we decided to get settled in to our new home first. We started searching the Petfinder website for just the right fit. We wanted an adult dog, medium sized and found 'Molly'. We met her at the Canyon County Shelter. The adoption experience was great. The staff there took the time to interview us to be sure we knew about Molly and they knew about us...understanding the commitment and responsibility of pet ownership. When Molly was introduced to us she was friendly but not overly 'out of control', she greeted both of us with a warm smile and wagging tail. When we went out to the car she just hopped in and sat in the back. It is so much easier when the dogs have had some training. Now, we just have to reinforce the training she's had. She is a delight, warming to everyone she meets. We arrange for play dates since she seems to miss playing with kids and other dogs. Thank you for taking such good care of Molly until we could find her and take her home.

I was looking for an addition to our family so our Jack Russell would have company when we were not at home. I wasn't sure who I was looking for, but once I saw Beanie I knew he was the one. From their first meeting, they were the best of friends. Beanie was a returned animal, but I didn't let that be a deterrent and I couldn't be happier. He was house trained, obedient and extremely loving. It really proved to me that dogs, like people, should not be judged too quickly. If you are considering rescuing a shelter dog and providing a forever home, please consider returned dogs too!

Kodi came to our home 2 1/2 years ago, about 2 weeks after we had moved to Idaho from California. My husband knew that I would be lonely here, since I didn't know anyone. He had lived here all his life and wanted to move back, so in order to get me here he promised me he would get me a dog. My dog had just died a year before so I agreed. We started looking before we moved out here, and went to the CCAS webpage, and saw Kodi. At first I didn't like him because he looked funny. When we moved to Caldwell he took me one Saturday afternoon and to my surprse Kodi was still there. As soon as I saw him I fell in love. We took him home that same day, and ever since he has made our family happy. Since then we have had 2 kids and he loves and protects them like his own. We also took in a Chihuahua and they are the best of friends. I really recommend adopting a pet they love you so much more. We never regret adopting him, he truly was meant to be in our family.

I adopted Pugsly (Rhett) September 9, 2010. He was a stray that was 4 years old. I had no problem house training him, and he now comes to his name. He is so sweet and affectionate. He loves my 3 year old grand daughter, and tolerates her completely. Pugsley loves to sit in my lap. My one worry was my cats, he barked and chased them every chance he could. Well we've worked on it, and he is so smart, he now knows I don't want him to bother them so, he tolerates them in the same room. How anyone could loose this little lover is beyond me. I'm so glad he's mine,

We were looking for a friend for our current dog, Chloe, who is a Blue Heeler/ Border Collie mix. We went to the Shelter just to look around, not to get anyone yet, and found Buddy. He was 4 years old, and an enormous Collie. (:

My husband had always wanted a Collie, but we were a bit afraid taking on the responsibilities of a big dog yet. So we walked him outside, and there was an instant connection. The way he just stayed with us wherever we went, how gentle, and sweet he was. It was so hard to get him that day, but we felt we should wait, so we sadly placed him back into his kennel, and thought we said goodbye for the last time.

Buddy came up in our conversations DAILY for the next 6 days. If we made the wrong decision, should we go back for him, are we ready, etc. We were convinced that since he was such a sweetheart, he was probably easily adopted within those 6 days.

On the 7th day, we went back just for fun with our current pooch, Chloe in the car. I ran inside and through the kennel, hoping he was still there- and he was! I knew we had to get him the moment he recognized me, and his tail started wagging. (:

We adopted him, took him home, and he's been here and happy ever since. Him and Chloe get along so well, and he is such a sweetheart to me, my husband, and any guests that come into our home. He truly is a blessing, and we never regret adopting him.
He just belongs in our family! <3

I adopted Betti on 9/11/10. At first I thought I would name her Buttons (as in cute as a). But, after a couple of days she proved that her name should be Shadow. She is always chasing shadows all over the house.

Shadow is a wonder kitten. She is so well behaved and loveable.

She is starting to sit on the window ledge and look out the window alot. She loves to play all the time. Sometimes, in her litterbox (she sees shadows!).

Our dog died 19 months ago when we were on vacation. We decided to adopt a shelter dog and I was very nervous about going to the shelter because I have never had that experience. When going to the shelter I was so surprised how much they help you find the right match. I had several dogs I wanted and we spoke to Jessica the counselor to help us decide which dog was the best match. We decided to meet 5 dogs and maybe more if needed. We went outside to the fenced kennels and "tried them out". The first 2 were wonderful but when we met the 3rd she actually picked us out. That was it. We did not want to see any others and she has been so much fun and we love her so much. She is 8 months old and so smart. There was a sign at the shelter about the black dogs being last to be adopted. We urge you to "try them out". There are so many great dogs being overlooked. I am so thankful to the staff at the shelter for helping us and it was a great experience. Our dog Hailey is going next week for dog obiedience but she already knows so many commands. Please consider these wonderful shelter dogs.

Penny came to our house as a foster dog. I was hesitant to take her at first because I had a new 8 week old baby, but I was told that she was really sick and they weren't sure if she was going to make it. The gals at the shelter had named the puppy Princess Buttercup from the Princess Bride. This is because she was so sick that like the Dread Pirate Roberts, every night they would tell her, "Goodnight Buttercup, you will probably be dead in the morning." If you have seen the movie it makes sense.
Penny was skin and bones when we got her because she had just barely started eating again. She was a tiny little fuzz ball with the biggest puppy eyes and black nose. Long story short, we completely fell in love with her. We were able to nurse her back to health and now she and the baby are growing up together. The poor dog puts up with a lot of abuse from the little ones, but she loves it. There is a saying that you don't pick your animals, they pick you. So true! Penny melted our hearts and it was all history from there.

I came in to adopt 1 cat a yr. ago. I ended up w/2. Pearl & Gabrielle. I was so sad when "Gabby" was hiding in the back of the cage & the gal attending to the cats told me not to even think about getting her, that she isn't social and will hide all the time, that I had to give her a chance~she just kept looking at me with that look of sadness and wanted help.
We got home with the 2 cats and Pearl (now Purrzee) was just fine, checking out everything and everyone. Gabby hid for a bit~30 mins. max! She hasn't hid since then. She is the funnest cat, she talks ALOT she plays and loves her belly rubbed and rocked like a baby! She is the most social cat we have. I am so glad we took her because with the gal @ the shelter saying NOT to take her, and her price was lowered, who knows if she would have ever gotten a home.
She is an awesome cat and her and Purrzee are best of friends!! That took about 2mths but now they are always together. Here is a picture of Gabby! A very happy, social cat!

Hi. My name is Frank. You may remember me as “Butch” at the shelter, but I told my new family that Frank was my real name. They all agree that I look like a Frank. I mean, have you ever seen “Men in Black”? Well, that’s me & my new big brother Spunky. We ARE the Men (Pugs) in black! Dad says we need some ties & sunglasses though.
I wasn’t all that happy in the slammer, although the people there were very nice, nobody had a lot of time for me. My new Dad, Rob, was just next door at the DMV (whatever that is) and he just stopped by to see what dogs were there. He told me that his good friend Mocha had just gone to doggie heaven, and the family had an empty place in their home & hearts. They say that I fit it just perfect and that I have found my Forever Home! I sure am glad to hear that. This place is a lot of fun!
On the way home from the shelter, Dad stopped by Petco, & got me a harness & leash like my brother Spunky has, and some other stuff. We got home just in time to meet my boy coming home from school. I call him boy, but he is big as Dad! He likes to play, and he even lets me sleep next to him in bed! I think I have found a best friend, although Mom & Dad give him a lot of competition. After a bath to get rid of the “kennel” smells, I played more with Spunky, Dad & Boy, and then Mom came home. Mom is Sunky’s best friend, but I knew I should make a good impression, so I jumped in her lap & gave her some wet kisses. She is really nice, and Spunky is nice to share her with me.
We ran around the big green back yard & ate, and then Mom & Dad took me for something new called a “Walk”. We went to a path by a creek, fed ducks (those startled me at first!) and played a little in the water. I like to play in the water. I was worn out after that. The next day we walked all around the neighborhood (there were a lot of something called “garage sales” everywhere. Everyone kept trying to give Spunky & me water. Mom brought some, but we accepted some to be polite, & I splashed around in the big bowl at one house. I really LIKE water! Dad bought a couple of nice pillows for us, and a little fire hydrant for the back yard. I took a nap with Dad after & relaxed a lot the rest of the day. I am going to have to get in shape like Spunky, to be able to keep up with everybody! Dad & Mom keep saying that they cannot believe that someone would bring me back to the pound (or let me go there in the first place). I do have to work on my manners & learn my boundaries, but I am trying real hard & listening to what they say. They tell me I am a good Pug, and that I have a home FOREVER!

My husband and I weren't sure if we were ready for a new dog yet. Our Netta (13 yo black Lab/Rottie), the best dog in the world, passed away in March while we were out of town and it totally crushed us. We knew we'd get another dog some day, but I was still grieving and couldn't even imagine it. But eventually my hubs started browsing petfinder.com, and zoomed in on one specific dog at CCAS, and convinced me to go meet her. It's extremely hard to see so many homeless pets and I felt even sadder. But there was an instant connection w/Sam, a 3 yo Swiss Mountain Dog mix (we think w/Lab). I strongly believe that our girl Netta guided us to each other b/c Sam is already Perfect Dog #2 and it's only been 3 weeks. Netta knew exactly what kind of pooch we needed, and it was Sam. She has many of the same traits that we loved in Netta, but definitely has her own style. She's smart, fun, energetic, obedient, and goofy. Our pet sitter wanted to steal her! We take our dog w/us just about everywhere we go so she has to be social & well-behaved, and already our friends & their dogs are impressed w/her and congratulate us on our super good luck at finding such a great dog. I had been worried that it would be a long process choosing another pooch, and also that I might unfairly compare the next one to our Netta. But Sam has actually eased my grief & sadness, and helps me to recall the happy times instead of my loss. My husband and I are so happy to be a trio once again and feel so lucky to have found Sam!

In April our miniature dachshund died at the age of 14. Three years ago our other dachshund died at the age of 15. They were incredible dogs and we absolutely love the breed. For the past few months my husband and I have been in search for a mini dachshund. We’ve visited advertised puppies and although they were all adorable…none of them felt “right” for us. It was hard to walk away from them but we knew the one who was meant to be ours would come along.

A few weeks ago I was looking for advertised dachshunds on the Internet. I don’t know why, because the facility is far away from where we live, but I went to the Canyon County Animal Shelter (CCAS) web site. I started looking at all the dogs and it literally took my breath away when I saw a beautiful miniature dachshund puppy. Out loud, I said, “Oh my gosh – this is our boy!” I just knew in my heart that Buckwheat; a 13 weeks-old puppy who was found as a stray and belonged to a local breeder who lost track of him was our new baby boy. The breeder decided he wasn’t valuable enough to take back so she relinquished him.

I emailed CCAS that night and told them I couldn’t get there until Saturday but they cannot hold the animals. The next day I went to work and all of my coworkers told me – you better get over there fast because he will be gone soon. I called CCAS and they told me the same thing. Thank God for wonderful, supportive coworkers who went on Map Quest to get the directions from work to the shelter for me – and they encouraged me to go get him now!!!

My experience at CCAS was wonderful. They love all of the animals in their care. I was interviewed, which is a great thing for them to do because they want to make sure the adopting families and the pets they are adopting are good fits and they do all they can to make sure pets are adopted once…to their forever homes.

Thank you CCAS for our precious baby dachshund! We’ve renamed him Lincoln and he is one very loved, valued, spoiled, sweet, healthy, happy baby boy!

I saw Flash on the CCAS website, and knew he was special. After convincing my family to take him in, we adopted him only three days later. I came home from school that day, and he greeted me instantly, rolling on his back for a belly rub. When we got Flash on 05/20/10 he was underweight, and his ribcage was showing, but since then he has put on some weight and is now at a healthy 60 pounds. Flash has gotten along great with the cats, and has been a joy to have. He loves to get cuddles and belly rubs, in fact, I've even nicknamed him my little cuddle monster. He can't bend his back left leg, but has no problem running around the house and playing. I love Flash to bits and pieces, thank you so much CCAS for holding on to Flash before he found his forever home!

We adopted our kitten, George, (now named Dizzy) back in March. We could tell immediately that he would be a great addition to our family. However, our 18 month old female cat, Lucy, did not agree – at first. It was a heart wrenching decision, but after a few days of the older cat hissing, sulking and seeming entirely miserable (which made us miserable), we decided we had made a mistake and would try to find Dizzy a new home. However, as my husband and I were discussing how to go about finding the new home for Dizzy, Lucy began to show interest in him. Then they began playing and now she not only tolerates him, they are the best of friends. They play together, chase and groom each other and are so much fun!

My dad originally adopted Samson (then known as Grant) but is now staying with us in our home. We have taken on Sam and absolutley love him. He is the most gentle of all giants. When he was adopted his muzzle and bottom chin were infected and rubbed raw from wearing a muzzle all the time. He is anything but vicious! He loves my 2 weiner dogs, cat and 11 year old boy. At first he was not socialized what so ever. He would do naughty stuff like grab food from you hands and plate. Potty in the house ect. As soon as he was around the family all the time (I don't work and have a lot of time to work with him) he does none of the above. We have had him now for 7 mths and with patience and training he is very polite obedient young man. Samson only barks when absolutley necessary. I've never had a dog before, but I wanted a smaller breed so I went to CCAS. I found my girl Jayda (on the right) in the big dog area, even though she's pretty small.

They didn't know if she was good with dogs, cats or kids, and she had shown some food aggression in the kennel. I took a chance on her though - there was something sweet about her I couldn't ignore.

Turns out she's awesome with kids, cats and she's even learned to cuddle up with other dogs, like her cousin Bassett Hound Calamity (on the left.) She was also housebroken and has been doing extremely well in obedience classes.

Her shelter picture didn't do her justice! If you're looking for a dog, go in person to check them out and get to know them. You can't tell much from a web listing or piece of paper. If I hadn't left my computer I never would've found Jayda.

He also has 3 children that he loves playing fetch with and recieving wonder loves from. We knew from the moment we met him that he was going to be a lot of work, as this breed is known for needing, but with that we found out that he is great and learned fast with the right technique and consistancy. He comes with me to work and sits on the bench and watches us do our thing. He knows the sit, down, and stay commands and we will continue to work with him with more tricks to better himself. We could not have wanted a better dog. He is not emaciated anymore and loves to be indoors and petted. Thank you for giving him a second chance. Brought in as a skinny stray, he quickly transformed into a bundle of love, energy and compassion. Although Allek is a big boy (now 100 pounds), he is the sweetest dog ever. Wakes us up with kisses and absolutely loves to go hiking. We love him so much. Him and our other dog (Mollie, a Treeing Walker Coonhound) are the best of friends and go everywhere with us. We love him so much.

I moved here from Seattle last June and had to leave my Australian Cattle Dog back home with my parents. I moved in to a house with a fenced yard with my boyfriend, who already had a bulldog. But as we all know they are very docile and lazy. I wanted my own little companion but I really wanted to adopt, save a dog. I originally fell in love with a dogs picture online but in person there was no chemistry. As I walked around the shelter I spotted this little 3 month old Australian Cattle Dog formerly named "Oreo" but we now call him Nut. We also drag race, of course he gets to come along and he just loves it. He is a huge part of our family, I could not ask for a better little buddy. He is so smart and has such a funny personality. He is my life and I wouldn't trade him for anything. Thank you CCAS!

After months of searching for the perfect dog, my husband and I spotted Alice (formerly known as "Madeline") on the CCAS website. We went to meet her, and immediately fell in love with her wiry grey hair and her hilarious, loving personality. We brought her home on March 16th 2010, and we couldn't have asked for a better dog. She has a bit of separation anxiety, but apart from that she has adjusted so well..
She is an incredible dog, and we don't know what we'd do without our little meatball :)

We have only had this adorable dog for 1 1/2 weeks, but he is thriving SO well! He has a wonderful, happy, and affectionate personality. He gets along with everyone, including our more challenging beagle! In fact, this is the first time our beagle has had someone to play with, since our other dog doesn't like to play. Even the cats like our new dog (that's saying a lot). Little Oliver (formerly "Zedd" at the shelter) is going to have a wonderful, fun, and safe long life. We love him! Thanks so much!

Lacy, formally known as Ida, has got to be the most loyal animal I have ever owned. She follows me everywhere I go. When I take here on runs she runs ahead and will wait by the trail for me to catch up. She is a cuddle bug and has been nothing but a joyous thing in my life. I just want to take the time to thank you for allowing me to adopt her. She was origianlly thought to be a problem dog who had behavior problems and problems being around other dogs and that is just not hte case. She is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

I never thought that I would have a dog- being allergic to most of them. My husband gifted me the chance to pick out any dog I wanted for Christmas. I told him I would only adopt a dog. I did all the research and kept looking on your site for a dog that wouldn't kill my allergies. I saw Sue, now Priscilla (aka,Prissy)on your site and I thought that She was the most adorable dog I had ever seen. It was through the error of one of the CCAS employees that she ended up in my arms that day. I adopted her that day and I couldn't be happier. Her little underbite stole my heart. She is my baby and she has yet to meet a person she doesn't like. Thank you so very much for helping me to find a dog that needed a friend just as much as I did.

My parents adopted Anna in 2007 as a birthday present. I had wanted a husky for 3 years and was checking this site every day, then Anna showed up and even though she's not full husky she stole my heart. I couldn't have asked for a better gift EVER! She's my baby girl and I love her with all my heart. I've had people come up to me (so has my sister) and asked if she was for sale, some even offered money for her right away.
But I could never ever sell her for as long as I live!
Thanks for the amazing dog!!!

We saw "Gunner" who is now named Riley on your website in early December 2009 and came into the shelter to look at him and introduce him to our lab, Holly. Riley is the sweetest, most loving, gentle, and best companion for us and our other lab that we could have found. He has been so much fun to have around and we can't wait to get him started into the companion program as well as obedience training. We are so happy to have him as part of our family. We hope that the family who left him at your shelter reads this and knows that he has a good home and will have a happy life with us. He has 5 acres to run and another lab to keep him company. We lost Spanky our yorkie in June of 2009 from old age, and it took some time to get over his passing. He had a good life and he wouldn't want us to be lonely and he knew we had lots of love to give. I found Howl on Pet Finder from Canyon County Animal Shelter. My husband wanted me to find one closer since we live in Bonney Lake, Washington. But I showed him Howls picture and he was worried that he would be gone when we got there, but we had to try and drove all night to get there in the morning. Well it was ment to be and he has brought much love and happiness to our home. We were going to rename him but nothing stuck, until one day I heard him, the funniest little howl, and with a good laugh and smile I knew that his name was perfect. I am greatful to all the people at this shelter you are all Angels and I think that Spanky and Howl would say so too!

We walked into CCAS on 2/13/08 only to find a woman standing there w/the cutest little tan dog. I found out that Carrie was the foster mom to this dog & that she was up for adoption. We fell in love immediately & adopted her on the spot & brought her home the next day 2/14. It was like we were meant to meet. Carrie was calling her Lady, but we changed it to "Sandi Mae". Sandi's wag is different, when she's excited her tail goes in circles, so we're always waiting for her back end to lift off like a helicopter. She loves our lab Valley Jean & our cat Cuddlebutt Marie. We feel extremely lucky that we walked in right when Carrie was there with her as she couldn't be a better addition to our family.

We adopted "FREEWAY" a little over 2 months ago from CCAS.

She was brought in after being found on I-84 as a little 1lb kitten.

She was a feisty little ball of spunk that loved everything, and she quickly won over our hearts.

Freeway has now become the Queen of the house, and rules over her two dogs, guinea pig and many reptiles. She is still trying very hard to get her foster brother Boo to like her, to no avail.

Her favorite activity is sitting by one of my daughters cricket containers and watching "bug central" until she dozes off...

She has a permanent spot here with our family and we are lucky to be in the presence of a Queen ( or so she thinks )...LOL

Sydney was my first Foster kitten. Trust me never Foster just one. I adopted him in Sept. 2003, he fit right in with the other cat and two dogs. What a crack up he is and so snuggly.

Johnny was also a Foster Kitten, had 9 at the time and he really worked it so he became a part of our family Dec 2007. He loves his brother Sydney. An angel he's not but loves to snuggle and play fetch. Yes he brings the ball back over and over again. Really bonded with all and totally completes our family
